  • Whats up with my Pumpkin, Squash and Courgettes

Can anyone suggest whats up with my pumpkins, squash and courgettes? I've potted them up into 5 inch pots with MPC. They are in an unheated conservatory that has been well ventilated during the hotter days. They are not dry and have been watered when dry and kept moist. Everything else i have in there is going fine and nice and green whereas all these are looking very poorly. I've sown another load to see how they do.
    Any help welcome.

Is it possible they have got too cold? I'm not sure which part of the country you are in but there have been some very cold night the last couple of nights and conservatory windowsills could get very chilly.

I'd question the compost, as long as you're sure it hasn't got below 5c overnight. I had some tomato plants last year that looked like that, when I tipped them out of the pots I discovered that the roots had barely grown while others sown and potted on at the same time but into different compost were 3 times bigger above and below the soil.

Try putting them somewhere warmer, or covering them fleece, and if they don't improve, change the compost.

the pots are too big and the compost shouldn't be "kept" moist. Water like this: how to water seedlings - YouTube

until you get the hang of how much water they need.

Also, the leaves look scorched. How much direct sun do they get, ie is your gh shaded in hot sun?

Thats how i have been watering them, moist is probably not the best description, not dry

Scorching might be, but wouldnt that affect everything i have in there? runners, peas, sweetcorn, sunflowers, grasses all apear to be fine.

Not necessarily. eg I have dozens of plants outside hardening off, but only the French beans are suffering (wind burn)

Oops - now I know why lots of my seeds haven't germinated, and there is a nice covering of algae on the compost!
