  • Courgette Plants

I planted my courgette plants in the bank holiday sun but since then they have grown one extra leaf & are turning a beige colour & dont seem to be doing well.

    Advice?

I think it's too cold still. Be patient and they will take off.

If you're concerned about it been a little cold, put some cloches over them to give them some protection until it gets a little warmer.

Mine are also a looking a little sorry for themselves!
I read somewhere you can temporarily stop there growth if they are planted out when it is still a little cold!

Mine are still in the greenhouse waiting to go out, I'll see what the forecast holds for the weekend.

Before you fleece them, lay a bed of straw around the plant to keep the leaves off the cold soil

And it may also be prudent to scatter a few slug pellets on the ground,in case they fancy a warm meal

Will do, thank you, I did put straw around my strawberries and it started to root and grow :-( is there anything else I could use or just weed?
Do you use organic slug pellets?

Probably still a bit cold for em. Treat the little beggars to a nice fleece wrap in the chilly times and they should pick up!

Mine are outdoors in the day and back in the house at night - too cold for em. Its meant to get a bit colder (4-5c) here the next few nights, but once thats back up to 6-7 they will be out in the green house full time (some broken panes of glass and no door, so not properly warm). then they will go out into the ground.

Mine are still on the lounge window 24/7 going to wait till June this year before they go out. My friend lost all his about a month ago so may have to let him have a couple.

All fleeced up :-) hopefully I will soon have happy courgettes! Thank you for the advice, next year I will keep them indoors for quite a while longer! I feel like I have planted my children outside after growing everything from seed! If those bloody slugs get them I think I may cry... Thanks again
