if the plant gets stressed too much it may throw out a pod or 2 thinking it needs to set seed quick before it dies
getting an orange hab ripe this early in the season would suggest that

THe plant has around a dozen small pods, and around 50 unopen flowers!

I have now pulled several of the tiny fruits off the plant, as they have been on there for a few weeks and have not grown at all.

My theory is the energy will now be focussed on the new flowers....
