I think you can plant garlic any month of the year and still get a crop of sorts.
Some times are better than others and some varieties perform differently to others.
Dig em up, split into individual cloves and replant 6 to 9 inches apart. I dare bet you'll get a useable crop at the end of it!
Garlic leaves can be used similar to chives if you so wish anyway!
