Lettuce ID and Issues

Can someone ID this lettuce for me please, I have been eating it but its tastes very green (if that makes sense?), also is it starting to bold as its not very old?

That's not lettuce. What else did you sow? Looks like it might be kale raab.

I agree with Rusty - its not lettuce and looks like Cima di rapa. Mine's flowering too

^ the gals are right: it's not lettuce, it's a brassica. Hence the "greens" taste

Well I never!! On the packet it said 'Italian leaf mix'. Is it the leaf thats eaten or the broccoli type stems? Or is it just bolting?

They don't look very mixed!! Looks like they're all the same plant in the row!
I pick the leaves when young to eat raw or you can cook them when they're larger - just like any other brassica. You can eat the flower shoots like broccoli.

Note to self.....Just because it looks like lettuce on the packet, doesn't mean it is!!

Usually I get stuff muddled due to not labelling anything.

It's amazing how the brain ignores what the eyes are telling it (your eyes did read the words "leaf" and they didn't see the word "lettuce", but your brain overruled the eyes, and made the connection by drawing on what it already knew about "green" + "leaf" + "edible"
