think 2 of my tomato plants have mosaic virus??

Think my 2 Gardeners delights have some kind of virus? yellow mottling of sorts on the new/top emerging foliage only.. I fed them both when i noticed about 48hours ago and they seem to be ok (no worse for now) thinking of ripping them both out as i dont want the other 4 plants to be infected (different varieties btw- only gardners delight are affected:S and these 2 plants btw were bought as cheap plug plants, not raised from seed by myself

Couple of what might seem silly questions. (a) Have you suffered with green fly? (b) Do you smoke?

It could be the onset of a virus but to be honest some of my plants look worse than that and they are OK.

I shouldn't rush into anything wait for a couple more posters with their advice.

I am guessing tomato are susceptable to nicotine transfer,but for my money if Irish veg smokes she holds the ciggy in her other hand

That's the reason I asked tobacco, tomatoes, peppers and potatoes all belong to the same nightshade family and are therefore in some ways susceptible to the same problems. I used to be a prolific smoker and found out the hard way.

Interestingly I have been growing tobacco, did quite a few in the past and had a go at trying to cure them but no luck, you really need controlled humidity and temperature and to know what you are doing.
Mine just ended up dry and brittle nothing like tobacco, could not smoke them, they would not even burn properly.
But they are really quite nice plants in my opinion, lovely pink flowers and the big broad leaves look quite impressive and exotic.
So I will put a few in so I have some seeds if I want to grow them in the future rather than buying them (rather expensive) the seeds are tiny though almost like dust or a grain of salt.

Slugs absolutely love them though, I think they are addicted!!

So they may be useful as a 'sacrificial plant' to attract slugs away form other crops?

They ravaged some of my tobacco plants to skeletons when they were young!

But them again you may be breeding slugs!! You can also make insecticide from them I believe.

Interesting plant in many ways!

Those plants, I fed with a seaweed feed and then a week later with their tomato feed, both still hhave the mottled leaves and a few brown/black leaves, have removed any bad leaves, going to try epsom salts on monday /:

Don't overdo the feeding and dosing up. What are you using the Epsom Salts for?

I would only use Epsom salts on yellowing leaves not brown black

well i was told it could help :s I might leave it another week before using it, havent even bought it yet mind you.. oh and forgot to answer previous questions..

I dont smoke.. and no greenfly as far as im aware..

I'd be inclined to remove affected leaves and just water for a few weeks see what the new growth is growing like

okay but thats what i meant btw, all new top foliage is green but yellow mottled sorta, im going out to the gh soon, its been a week or two since i took a photo, ill take another one to show you all and see what ye think

I think the feeding did the trick beacause new foilaige is now coming through blemish free

I took a photo of the older leaves that were my main worry, these are just below the new foliage..
