Sunflowers are great for pollinating insects, birds and squirrels, so I've been growing them for years but only rarely taking the trouble to shell the seeds for myself, while wishing it could be done more quickly.
A gerbil or garden squirrel could do it a hundred times quicker than me. I need one that has been specially trained to shell them for me in return for having a share themselves
This year I'm planning to grow 'Mongolian Giant' for the first time. This variety is supposed to have the largest seeds of all sunflowers, so I'm hoping this will encourage me to eat more of the seeds myself.
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Sesame
Kakai - Hulless seed Pumpkin
Breadseed poppy
Fennel (green and bronze)
Caraway
Black Cumin (Nigella sativa)
Sunflower
Mustard
Any squash
Coriander
Aniseed
Fenugreek
Szechuan pepper - Zanthoxylum simulans
The plan is to create a "seed" bed for the herbs and leave everything to go to seed. I need to find out which are annual/perennials. Maybe keep the perennials together.
Grow the squashes and sunflowers elsewhere.
I'm liking this "plan" already

Rats tail radish are grown for their pods. You can pickle them ... which reminds me I might actually have a jar somewhere.
Can you keep the seed of rats tail radish, and do they self seed as my son has several plants of them in his garden where I can get the seeds or plants from
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
