When to pull potatoes

When is the best time to pull potatoes is it when the flowers die? Or the leaves die?

Depends on the variety and how long they've been planted. Flowers are not really much use as an indicator, and not all varieties produce flowers.

They have flowered I planted them at the very end of April

Mine are in flower early variety been in around 14 weeks and not a great deal under the one I dug up yesterday try and have a poke in the ground with your fingers I reckon that's by far the best method that way if there's nothing there you won't have wasted/ruined that plant

You need to wait at least another month then Liam.

I've pulled my first 3 pots, however they've been in 15 weeks, will begin to dig roots in the the ground from around early July.

My earlies are weeks behind. I've left them two weeks longer than usual and they're still not up to much. Hopefully all the recent rain will help

My plants don't look anywhere near ready (a few are in flower, but that isn't an indicator of anything in particular), but I managed to furtle* a couple of dinners out of them.


* stick your hand down in the soil and feel for tubers. If you feel a big one, pull it out
