Green tomato!!!!
I noticed one was blemish like a snail crawled over it so I decided to pick it.
Then I sliced it up and tasted it raw, tasted pretty decent, but crunchy compared to a normal tom
and not as sweet, more like a bit of courgette perhaps.
I also sliced it up and fried it, along with another one as part of a fry up which I have nearly
finished, all the fried green tomatoes have been polished off already so they much have tasted nice!! Bit like a fried potato perhaps. Of course tomatoes and potatoes are from the same family.
Wild blackberries -they are very late this year, usually I start picking them the third week of July. Only got half a pound too, not enough for jam, so into a pie they went
Cucumber, Burpless I think, last Wednesday. And it was a monster! 12" long, 2 1/4" across at its widest point. This from a plant I was given by someone, that I was worried was taking too long to grow a few weeks back Had part of it in a salad, and it was really nice, crunchy, juicy, with no bitterness at all.
The plant is in my greenhouse, about 7' long now, growing along a horizontal cane about 3' off the ground so that the fruits hang straight down. I'll be picking another two of equal size by this Wednesday I reckon, with easily another 10 fruits in development and no sign of the plant slowing down. I have the plant in a pot, stood in a deep saucer. I'm filling it up every evening with 5 litres of water, and by the following evening it's always dry again!
I cut my first ever cabbages today. I knew I'd planted them too close so I could harvest 'spring greens'. Oh they were super yummy! It was such a treat because I took them to my parents for a roast and me and my mum are the only ones who really love them. So so nice. 😄
