  • Sideshoots on Tomato plants

Growing things for the first time this year and jumped into the deep end regarding the number of different things I've started growing. I'm learning quickly but theres always a few things I'm not quite sure about.

Now I have a few tomato plants (Gardeners Delight) which I started late (like end of april) so only now has my biggest got a couple of sets of trusses that have not yet flowered (I know I'm pushing it for fruit in reality).

Anyway I've read things about cutting off side shoots so the plant puts all its energy into the fruit. However I'm not sure whats what and dont want to cut the wrong 'branches' off! I've added a few pics.

I almost want to cut the lower branches off because they are huge, but my gut feeling is the branches which look similar to the top of the main stem.

Also while I'm at it heres a pic of leaves off of one of my other tomatoe plants, is this a disease/pest or lack of nitrogen?

I think there's a video of how to remove sideshoots too.

The marks on your leaves look like scorch.

ahh good, well, better than disease anyway, did hit 30oC in Edinburgh, yesterday, unheard of! it was in my wee blowaway greenhouse thing at the top that I cant open up anymore.

I read on this forum a couple of years ago about removing side shoots; the advice was to plant some (or all) of them as they very easily take root. I tried that and it worked. All I did was stick them into the sides of containers. Anyway, I had a few nice plants fruiting a bit late - there weren't masses of fruit on them, but hey, free gift tomatoes.
