I forgot to sow, my sprouts! I suppose there is no point in sewing them now? Don't seem to be any plants in the garden centres, guess I've missed the boat?
Think so Dotty, sorry . Mind you, I sowed mine ages ago and they're lovely and big and healthy looking - and have started to throw out sprouts like sprouting broccoli!! There are teeny weeny blown sprouts up and down the stems, but at the top there are definitely sprouting shoots - which are delicious by the way . So what the weird weather and all, you may not have had sprouts even if you'd planted them in time! Console yourself with all that space you've saved for planting something else instead this year .
I've thrown the planting calendar in the compost bin and sow things when I remember. So, if you have the seeds, give them a go. You may not get sprouts in time for Ch****mad but, what the heck, there'll be plenty of other things to eat
Thanks for the advice, think problem was everything was taking ages to germinate and often not all, and then I ran out of space, so was kind of waiting! Maybe they'll grow quicker in the heat!
Hi all, just put some sprout plants in allotment about 6 in tall bought them about a month ago from Victoriananursery.co.uk 5plants £2.50. Everything in my plot is late because only got it in May but planted loads and am getting some return cos this years weather is so far behind in seasons that ground doesn't know what going on. Got potatoes, cabbage, onions, beetroot, all coming on strong. Sorry babbling now..try and get hold of some Sprout plants and see what happens.
Clearly you are way too late for the optimum timings but if you have the seeds and really want too then give it a go but be prepared to get nothing much as they'll bolt before the sprouts properly form if they're running very late and do take up an awful lot of space. Personally I wouldn't bother now but it's up to you.
They're always the first brassica I sow back in March so mine are quite a good size now.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
