my tomato plant update

hurray!!! There are some tiny tomatoes are forming finally! and more trusses has been developed as well (5 in total currently).

I notice few of the tomatoes have some marking on their skin, are these blossom end rot? I did put crush egg shells before I pot the plant.

I am feeding 500ml of dilute (1/4) tomorite liquid to the plant everyday, is it enough of water for my plant? I am unsure how much is enough for the fruiting stage.

Yes, sorry, that does look like blossom end rot.

The crushed eggshells won't really help, as the plants can't absorb the calcium from them.

Make sure your plant(s) have plenty of water at all times.

1/2 a litre of water per pot per day is nowhere near enough. It is this erratic watering that is causing the 'blossom end rot'.

Now they are at this stage if you have them in dishes to water from the bottom make sure the dishes are never empty. If you are watering form the top you need to fill the space between the compost and the rim of the pot with pure water one day and with feed the next.

This assumes you have them in large enough pots in the first place, something the size of a domestic bucket and have a gap of approximately 2" above the compost.

I did put crush egg shells before I pot the plant.

But that isn't calcium in a form that the plant can use: plants need liquid nutrient. Also, it's not extra calcium that the plant needs, it's consistent watering.

If it goes without water at all it will produce BER

thanks guys again. I cut away those BER infected tomatoes this morning. I tried to control the water input down to minimum due to the fear of blight and watery tomatoes and thought it would get away from BER due to the egg shells. I setup a gravity fed dripper so that the water could get to the soil slowly, but maybe it was just too slow too little, so that the soil dry up.

Lesson learned, I will get more water in from now on.....
