rabbit manure as compost anyone?

Hi,

I was researching fertilizer earlier & saw that sheep & chicken manure are good, got me wondering if the pellets from my 2 little bunnys might be any good ?! I found this article Rabbit Manure in the Garden - Vegetable Gardener i`m suspect of making compost tea with it though,

I`m interested to know of anyone's experience with it,

Add it to your compost heap. I used to add all the guineapigs' poo and bedding to mine.

We keep lots of Rabbits and all the wet and dirty straw goes on the compost heap and any dry straw we use as mulch. Works fine! I think I did see somewhere that it is better than poultry manure.

roitelet what type of bunnys do you have? i have a very small netherland & a mini lop, they are good friends. the lops my favourite, friendly & loves his food !

I have a large lop eared, the male and very tame. He spends qite a lot of the time in the house. Two large females of unknown race. A dwarf lop eared and her straight eared baby. So a lot of rabbit poo for the garden.

Yes definately, I got about 6 bagloads from a breeder the winter before last - I left it in the bags to rot down for a year then spread it on to the beds early this spring - all the crops in those beds are doing really well, especially my sweetcorn and beans which I've never been successful with before.

On the whole I'd be happy to use rabbits as compost. And pigeons.

I use vermicompost (worm compost) .... this is the best of the best .... I don't have a wormery, so I have to buy it in 10kg bags, but well worth the money

2nd best is rabbit manure .... I have been trying to find someone nearby who breeds/keeps rabbits, but to no avail .... add rabbit poo to your compost bin, and you will have a very good compost/manure

Stu - still slug proofing my garden using wet & dry sandpaper....they don`t like it!

I use my bunnies manure in the composter. Good stuff. I have a lion head bunny , an inheritance from someone who couldn't keep her anymore. She lives in with my chooks. Feeding time is quite funny as they sometimes like the same food I'm bringing!

I have been using plagron worm substrate (compost), and I pay £8 per bag 10kg bag from my local hydroponic store.... I just spread a handfull around the base of existing shrubs/plants .... it's really good stuff

well you don't need compost or manure .... 8 cats should keep your garden full of manure and very few plants.... you don't even have to till your beds .... as the cats do that evertime they go to the toilet (5-6 times a day)

I'm sure that your neighbours are well chuffed aswell

wow 8 cats, i`d get 2 bunnys if i were you,they like to snuggle ;-) they need some running around time too

Dim how often you spread the plagron ?

I apply the manure from our rabbit direct to some beds once plants are established...Onions loved it this year..Put plenty into compost bin too...
