That'd be ace! I always plant more than I want because I know I'll get too impatient to wait so when my 3 year old asks if she can pick them I let her so I can see what's going on down there!

To be honest I don't think you would need to pull them up, you'll be able to feel with your fingers if theres a bulb there or not, mine were pretty close to the surface and I could easlily feel that there was a bulb there before I howked it out.

Mine were really slow to start but when they took off they were growing 2 foot in one night. I only gave them a smallish place to grow in the garden this year but Ill try them down the allotment next year, every time I go out there's a vine shooting off where its not meant to go.

Would you recommend it for me considering our weather? Hopefully, I'll have a proper greenhouse next year.

I've had three plants (started by a friend in a GH) outside in one large pot and they have been prolific. Easily had 60 to 70 fruit....and two of them are still going. Definitely grow them again!

started to grow rapidly in august but very spindly and no flowers I grew James Wongs but started late so will have another go next year. The musk melons did absolutely nothing

Still harvesting a small bowl full each week although nearly down the last I'd say. I'm off to research something bigger for next year... hmm potatoes? carrots? onions? the world is my veggie oyster!

Are they worth planting as a standard cucumber replacement, more of a novelty or a side crop?
I was looking for seeds for next year and I keep seeing these popup.

We eat a lot of cucumber, however its one of those glut plants, we either have to buy at the supermarket or have so many we are eating cucumber butties and salads everyday (not that I mind).
These look like they would be more of a steady flow and look like they will keep better due to the size of them (no cutting).

I'd love to hear if anyone grew them as a replacement or side by side with normal cucumbers.

I bought some cucamelon seeds. They came with no instructions at all. When should I sow them? Which pot size? I should keep them in the greenhouse or they will be fine outdoors from June? Also, anyone have a picture of the whole plant? I Googled it but I couldn't finep one to have a better idea about trellising, etc.

i grew them alongside cucumbers last year and they were prolific.I believe they can grow outdoors as they are certainly easier to grow than cucumbers. The ones i grew only reached bitesize but were delicious with a slight melon flavour

You can be so subtle BB
Actually, I've nothing much to tell about these cucawotsits. Mine came from Realseeds
(where they are called Melothrie) and there are a couple of photos on their website.Vegetable Seed : Cucumbers, gherkins and a few other oddities I sowed them the same time as cucumbers and grew them in the GH. They weren't very vigorous (about eaves height) or productive I'll try them again this year as I still have some seeds but not really impressed.
Others on this thread seem to have had more success so they may be the best ones to ask
