My wife has recently been boiling my newly harvested potatoes. They were Pentland Javelin early potatoes. Sadly whilst they tasted good, they "went through the water" and came out rather fluffy! Does anyone know why?

Perhaps they were in the pan too long? I don't boil spuds any more, I either steam them (takes too long though, uses too much fuel) or microwave them (quicker, stops them breaking up).All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

I had this problem last year, this year the badgers have eaten most of the crop :'( However with what we did rescue I tried a method I read on here somewhere, put them in cold water, bring up to a slow rolling boil, prod like you've got OCD, as soon as ready whip them out. Worked a treat for us, best new spuds ever, even if there was only enough for 2 from 12 planted seed spuds..........
