Potatoes have flowered and now fruited - time to harvest?

One variety of potatoes I have in (either Desiree or Anya) has flowered and since last week has fruited (produced a green fruit that looks like it's distant relative the tomato but is poisonous).
I'm aware it's the fruit, contains seed, poisonous etc.

Is the fruiting a qualitative indicator of when to harvest?

Nope afraid not. Time in the ground is a better indicator and a furtle to find out what's below is even better.

I had those fruits on my potato plants last year but it was a poor potato harvest really but that may just be coincidence.

I think it is really strange that the plant produces a fruit and a vegetable, I have never heard of that before!

Apparently is is a member of the nightshade family which also includes tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers which are fruits.

So I think it is a fruit

Also high in vitamin C which we associate with fruits!!

I wonder if you can make jam from them

Onions produce a vegetable and a fruit, as do carrots, cabbages....we usually call them seeds but that's what a fruit is.

i was talking about jam from the potato tuber, apparently you can make sweet potato jam.

I like sweet potatoes Ipomoea batatas . They are mentioned frequently in the profiles in the fitness magazines for some reason They have all the taste of eating potatoes, turnips and carrots in one veg without having to eat potatoes, turnips and carrots.
Three less pans (if baked) for a Burns dinner.
