Yes I understand that but I have never had a point when the female flower is open. It's always shut.

This grew from an unfertilised female flower. A small courgette forms but, since it will never produce seeds, it falls off (or I remove it )

I wasn't sure if it was okay to open up the flower - it felt very intrusive the once time I tried it! I now have another couple coming along so it looks like the courgettes just needed time to get going. Typically, we go away next week!Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

Sorry, I planted some in the ground soil which are dark green and healthy. Since my initial post the ones in the large container have gone pale yellow. I have tried feeding with nettle compost to get the leaves healthy but so far it hasn't helped.

I did post pics on another thread. still no fruit forming, just pathetic small stumps that look pale with a flower bud so small it isn't worth talking about. I was told to stop feeding them and yet another poster here advised feeding. Which is correct ? The plants are really big so why no courgettes ? Is it too late now to expect any fruit ? Plenty of pollinating insects in my garden.Last edited by Marb67; 18-08-2013, 09:10 PM.
