  • Which Cucumber?

I've picked 3 small cucumbers today to do a taste comparison!!

From L to R, they are Jordanian (HSL), Dragons Egg, Unknown all female from Darcy
Verdict - they were all sweet and juicy - the peel on the Dragon's Egg was thicker and had a rough texture and the Unknown one had a melonish taste - if you know what I mean
In terms of productivity - its the 2nd cue from the Unknown one and the first from the other two. All 3 have more babies on the way.
My favourite - probably the Jordanian. Just right to eat straight from your hand and a nice thin peel

Thanks for the taste test Vc. Personally I don't have roon in gh for three varieties and go with my usual, konsa from lidl. As I've never grown anything else successfully I can only say it suits my tastes. My outdoor cuc are always a disappointment.

I have been growing moneymaker cucumber outdoor, last year they were a bit of a disaster (hit my some disease) but I am very pleased with them this year, I have already polished off 3 so far and struggle to eat them as as fast as the are produced
They have all been grown in pretty small pots, I intended re-potting them but as they are producing nicely as they were I didn't bother.

I would say they are my biggest success in terms of little effort put in and as much cucumber as I can eat. I am not a particular fan of cucumber, sometimes they have a slightly 'gaseous' taste from the shops (I think that means they are going off) but these are lovely with a fresh mellow/appely taste. All grown from seeds too, at pretty much zero cost.

All round could not be happier with them really.

I am growing mini white in the greenhouse, I have about 7 of them and already enough cukes to have breakfast, lunch and dinner...the reason I've grown one variety is so that I can save the seeds, so I am going to let two plants now just go to seed.

Blimey Zazz how many seeds are you going to have?

I'm liking the Mini White's, too despite my concerns about their health.

I was going to save seed with a net and a paintbrush but not at all now in case it's something that can be passed on. The seeds were from a swap and I've still got tonnes left so I'll see what next year brings. Going to save from my Crystal Apple though.
