checking the greehouse this morning, it appears that I have an aubergine!!! Years and years have I been trying and it looks like I might finally have cracked it! The funny thing is the plant it's on has been totally neglected,in fact theres 2 plants in one pot, it dried out a couple a weeks ago and recovered.......tough love maybe? The one's i've planted in the greenhouse border are looking lush and have lots of flowers but no sign of fruit yet.....scratches head

Congratulations to you!
My single aubergine plant has been neglected from the off. Sown late, potted on late, given the worst spot in the GH and then evicted to make room for the chosen ones (toms, cucs, chillis, peppers).
Tough love is not working here. Though, it is flowing at the moment and looking relatively healthy (under the circumstances). While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

The Origin of Fruit Ripening: Scientific American
Three decades later, researchers found that plants not only responded to ethylene, but they could produce their own, and production of the gas increased when the scientists cut (injured) the fruit with a knife.
It is interesting that this is a picture of my first ripening tomato
note the damage to the stem at about 10 o'clock maybe ethelyne produced there
helped the tomato ripen?
