Should I give up on these seeds germinating - they've not done anything for 3 weeks, whereas my other varieties are growing fine. Do hybrids take longer?Maybe they are duff seeds?
Sue.
I would wait, I had this problem once and it just came down to warmth and the sun. I was in the same situation and they appeared about 5 weeks in, after I went out and bought some. It may just be the weather. What variety are they?
I have about 25 different types of tomato seed sown at present in my greenhouse and so far in three weeks very little have grown. I would advise more time as temperatures are only now going up. Tomato plants only grow if surrounding temperatures are 20 degrees. If temperatures go below 10 degrees then they will not germinate.

It's been a funny start to the year alround Suee. My Dahlia tubers hae only started shooting in the last week or two. I sowed some trailing Lobelia & the germination on that is also poor this year as compaired to previous years. We jus haven't had the light levels needed. I have seriously htought about fitting a flurescent light over the propagating bench to see if this will move things along.
Lets hope that now the clocks have changed, the weather will !!

Hi Jaxom, why so many varieties? Are you doing an experiment on them. I was just wondering what variety of toms everyone else grows and why. It would be an interesting question. It would also be interesting to see the results at the end of the season.

Hi all, I love the little yellow pear ones, but Edwin Tucker were out of stock when I put my order in, so I phoned them and they sent me some golden brandy wine, never tried them before. I've got 9 varieties in all for different reasons this year, but nothing growing yet, probably its still too cold in my greenhouse. I can't afford the gas or paraffin at the moment.
golden brandy wine, gardeners delight, big boy, marmande, green grape, floridity, tres cantos, and I can't think of the other one!!
Bramble, I started saving seed out of tomatoes that I liked, and then I ordered some heritage tomatoes that I fancied growing, but one type was not in the envelope when it arrived. I e-mailed the supplier and they sent me the missing variety plus a whole shed load of others as a bonus. Then other people gave me packets, as they knew I had a new green house. So now I am growing loads to give away so other people can try growing unusual but tasty tomatoes and then we can all do taste testing this summer.

I'm only doing Gardener's Delight, Brandywine and Tumblers - am new at this game so don't want to do too much until I know what I'm doing, plus I don't have heaps of space.
Meanwhile, I pricked out some seedlings the other night and they haven't responded very well. Most have shrivelled slightly. Don't know whether it's because I put them in a different room to the one I germinated in or because I put the tray of pots into a polythene bag instead of a propagator lid (due to limited supplies). Anyway, I've now put a propagator lid back on and put them back in the original room (unheated, SE facing, 65-70 degrees) and am hoping I can still salvage them. It's not the end of the world as I have quite a few more seedlings and some more germinating. However, it would be good to know where I went wrong.
I don't know if I pricked them out too soon as I'm not sure that I understand the difference between seed leaves and true leaves. Can anyone give me any advice or a link to an image of what they should look like when they are ready to go into pots?
