Seed leaves tend to be round and flat, to get as much energy to the roots as possible, true leaves will look like minaiture versions of the plant. You can transplant tomatoes with seed leaves, as seen here:

So you should be okay, they tend to droop or shrivel a bit sometimes if you helf them by the stem and not the leaf but sometimes they're just getting use to the new conditions.

Thanks for your help Andrew. My seedlings look like the ones in the picture (or they did before I transplanted them!). The leaves I have are elongated rather than round so I think they must be true leaves. I was careful to hold them only by the leaves so maybe they are just getting used to the new conditions.

No forgot to add that tomato seed leaves look like the above pic, a few veg do have leaves similar to their seed leaves but you should always prick out by holding them.

The wilt should be okay once they get settled in.

Ah right, thanks for the clarification. At last check they hadn't improved but hadn't got any worse either. Hopefully, will see some improvement in a day or two.

            Tomato seed germination

            Hey there,

Don't give up on your tomato seeds!

I germinated all 15 seeds successfully on a moist paper towel, placed this on a small dish and put the seeds on it (allowing room for root) and then placed the whole thing in a ziplock bag, zip it closed, ( place in sun light). There you have your own little green house !

It took maybe 7days for them to germinate and I planted them in an egg carton with regular soil and placed that in the zip bag ,on April 9th and by the 12th most of them were out and happy and 1/4 inch high..
Hope this Helps and Happy Growing

Hey Jitter, good post, but I think as the original post was in 2006 they might have given up by now?
