Have anyone dugged up their main ones yet? Im not complety sure when I planted mine out as I've losted my paper work!! Off my head I think it was end of May. Doh!!
I always thought you went for as long as possible with main crop til they either died or got blight.
I've got Sarpo Mira (don't all rush to tell me they are tatseless) just to see if they will actually get through to the end of the season without blight. So far they look really good but so are my second earlies as we've had almost no Smith periods this year. This next week/fortnight will be the real test now the weather has turned.
I'm also anticipating someone popping in in a minute to tell you you can harvest you main crop when you like you just might not get set skins or the yield you'll get if you hang on till the Autumn.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!
The longer the better, the 22 weeks thing is usually the minimum time they will need. Like most others I leave mine until the haulms have died right back.

i still have foliage on my first earlies as well as my maincrops, all planted around easter
as i had a huge stack of leeks to plant, i decided to dig up my first earlies, even though the foliage hadn't died back - after digging 1/3 of the bed i realised i was digging up the king edwards - ooops - they're small, but still nice ....
