For the first time EVER, since we've had our allotment and been growing maincrop pots, we have had no blight whatsoever. We have grown allegedly blight resistant Sarpo Mira and whether there just isn't much blight around this year or they truly are blight resistant remains to be seen. (I suspect there's not much blight about as the other varieties we have grown that are not as resistant seem OK too.)
This has put me in a bit of a quandry. Having had blight on my maincrop potatoes (Maris Pipers) in every past year I've grown them, I've had to hack down the haulms in late July as a rule.
So can I just let these blight free plants grow and grow for some time yet? They still look green and healthy, a few have berries on them and we do not have a slug/snail problem on our fairly light sandy soil so the tubers won't get munched.
Any thoughts anybody?
