Used compost

Having an amazing year on the tattie crop front. Arran Pilot has been the star with very heavy crops from tattie bags.
Now I have around 12 bags of used compost. Usually I have dug this into the garden as a soil improver but can I keep some of this for next years crop, say half old half new for the sacks??

I did that last year - i didn't have any signs of pest or disease in the old compost so i stored it over the winter, mixed in some growmore and used it for my next crop of spuds. Once they were finished i used it to top up my raised beds!

Got a decent crop - nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Personally I wouldn't risk using it again for spuds unless you can guarantee there was no trace of disease in your plants. I re-use all my container compost but for different plant groups. If you sieve your potato compost it will be ideal for container carrots/parsnips.

Providing you have had no disease what so ever then yes you can use it.

I riddle mine to get rid of roots etc, then store it over winter in my dustbins, this will give me 800ltrs for next year.

I used to use Growmore as a base fertilizer but this year used Organic Extra a concentrated dried farmyard manure, the results have been so good I intend to carryon using it.
