hi all made a new bean frame for next year and i'm thinking of a permanent place for it on my allotment is this a good idea or will it need moving every year
I grow my beans in the same place every year, however I dig a trench and all the soil from the trench goes To the raised beds, I then fill the trench with manure, homemade compost ect. Most people would advise you to rotate them on a 4 year rotation, however as I have said I grow mine in the same place and I always get a good crop
there are a couple of old boys on our allotment that have had their beans in the same place for over twenty years, they just add compost after removing the beans then tickle this in before planting
That sounds good. I too grow my beans in the same place every year. When they've finished I clear them off and make the circular bed into a "compost pit" until May time and then dig it and cover with fresh bought compost.
This is my second year of growing my beans in the same place. I planted Cobra on one side of my path and Climbing Borlotti the other side. Both doing very well - meeting in the middle over my head. Just gave the rows a top dressing of "home made" and a sprinkle of chicken pooh when I planted. I have also been picking volunteer runner beans which self seeded from last year!
