  • Tomatoes - evenness of size?

How can the amateur achieve even size in trusses?

Ours vary from 2" to 3 or 4".

The professionals must have a secret?

They look pretty ok to me
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Photoshop is what the pros use I reckon.
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

In advertising perhaps, David but, in the market, each variety is of even size & I'm sure the many tiddlers are not discarded.

Ignore my photo - it was just for a bit of colour. And the larger ones were chosen to match from many different plants.

I'm sure the tomato variety grown for sale is different to the ones that the home grower would choose?
Theirs are bred to be uniform in size, colour and consistent in all respects while we would go for a little more individuality and flavour

I would think they get sorted and those that do not fit the size criteria are used for thing like ketchup.

Nice to see you had a good harvest Tim and yes you have made me hungry.

If you want them for a special dish you could discover a lot about the character of your dinner guests by observing who snaffles the biggest ones first.

As others have said, commercial varieties are bred for uniformity and taste is not always high on the breeders list of priorities.
