How long for chillis to ripen?

I sowed seeds from a packet that may have been a magazine giveaway and like a complete idiot didn't keep the packet or note the name.
They started off slowly but now are full of peppers - green at first, they changed to black but....no sign of them turning red. It's been weeks now and the weather has been hot and sunny so I thought they should have turned red by now. I'm puzzled - are there black chillis?

I have the same problem at the moment, i got about 20+ cayenne chilli plants all bearing green chillies some new some very old and no signs of changing colour/ripening.

Some are getting to the stage where they look like chillies on roids lol.

I managed to find out what the chilli plant is! I found a little marker in one of the pots (I was more organised than I thought) and it's a Chenzo chilli. The ripe fruits are Black!!

I had better start harvesting - if anyone wants some of the seeds let me know.

I have chenzo too and they are mostly black but a couple have begun to turn red this week!

My scotch bonnets are still green, all the little ones are going red quite quickly but the big ones don't seem to be budging?

Chenzo are one of my favourite chillis. Really attractive plant the way it tends to arch out with lots of branches, compared to other types. The chillis will end up red if you leave them long enough, which always seems to take ages. I also find the flavour is different between Green, black and red too.

Do you guys pinch out the new growth on your chilli plants like tomatoes?

Reason being is my chilli plants have tons more flowers opening and even more coming through, should i really be pinching all this out and diverting all the goodies to the current unripe chillis?

I've taken some of the fruit but left the rest to continue to ripen and hopefully will end up with some red ones before winter. I've never grown such slow-ripening chillis before!

If you can bring the plants indoors onto a warm sunny windowsill, they'll ripen quicker. They need heat, and our nights are getting pretty cool now

Must be the late start to the growing year. It's been sunny, a good crop has set, but no ripening yet. Usually would be ripening from mid-August.

However, even up here my chilis are fairly happy in the greenhouse until early October, so I'm not panicing yet.

Well today I harvested my scotch bonnets, they've finally all gone red - got a jug full of them
Now what to do with them all LOL
