  • Do I Win Prize For Biggest Courgette?

Well what can i say .......

First year growing courgettes and now I've learned 2 things 1. Don't plant so many :P 2. Don't plant them to close .

Due to being so close together finding the courgettes was a mission, and i had 2 courgettes that have been hiding for I would say some time .

Now question is do you dare to use it? or think hmmm that's going to be chewy

The big one i put a fruit juice bottle next to it for size comparison, it weighs in at just over 2700g haha, I picked a total of 9525grams of courgettes.

What do i do with near 10kg of courgettes, already made 30+ jars of chutney/pickle :P.

Di's pickled courgette is a standard in this house. The recipe is in the season to taste board.

Question is will that big courgette be to chewy for pickling?

Hmmmm stuffed marrow now that sounds rather interesting .

I never used to eat/like pickle but i made the recipe found on here for pickled courgettes/onion and I love it with cheese sandwiches.

I chop them into pieces and roast in the oven with onions, peppers, chilli, basil, garlic and tomatoes. When cold, I put them into throw out containers and freeze. Perfick.

Well, we've all done that! Grate, freeze in the right amounts for courgette cake and you'll be good to go right through the winter.

It should still be easily edible with not much difference.

Thing is, they'll get to that size much quicker than you think, with the right conditions. With plenty of water and sun they'll get that big in a week if you turn your back.

Courgette chocolate cake is one to try. The cake was very moist when I tried it!

See the note about peeling and de-seeding large courgettes!

This is why I grow White Serpent Squash - you can use it like a courgette but when it gets big, you can leave it to cure and use it over winter. win:win

The Serpent are straight and white whilst Tromba are not straight at all! But the same principle. Both great courgettes/squashes...
