Beans inside runner/French beans

Hi everyone
I have loads of beans, some of which have grown very big. I was just wondering if I could take the inner beans out and store in a jar for stews and the such?

Leave the bean pods to dry before shelling and storing. Make sure they are really really dry before you put the lids on the jars, or they go mouldy

Ok thanks 😀 can you use runner and dwarf beans? Plus do they need soaking before cooking?

I think all dried beans need soaking??

I grow borlotti beans for drying and follow that procedure - reckon it will be appropriate for every long bean seed.

Dried beans need boiling for ten mins before you use them - this destroys a toxin inside them.

If the pods are brown, dry & crispy, yes.

If the pods are still soft, then store the 'seeds' in the freezer until you want to use them. They'll need a 5-10 min rapid boil to destroy the toxin so you don't get tummy ache.

Dry beans need to be rehydrated (overnight soak in cold water, or a 1 hr soak in boiled water), then the 10 min boil

Thanks so much for all your help. I took beans out of pods that were still green and have them drying out all over the place, will they be ok to store or should I still put in the freezer?

Yes, you have to shell them. The pods don't taste that nice
