I sowed a couple of mine in January and they still have loads of green tomatoes on them. I think sowing them early gives you a longer season (i.e. more fruit) but you're still left with green 'uns
It's a tricky balance isn't it. Yes sowing early gives you early toms plus more toms in the long run. But you have to time it well when to stop the plant/pinch out the growing tip. Get that right and you should get all your remaining fruit ripened late into the season. Me thinks that's an art that I am a long way from knowing. my plan is to choose a small few varieties, maybe 3, and get to know them very well over the years so I can do just that. I'm thinking 2 sowings of maskotka (early and march), rosada (early) and ... Undecided. Been reading good things about Amish paste??
I'm sticking with the littlies. They ripen first and quickly whereas the larger toms seem to take ages to reach maturity and are prime targets for the caterpillars
Heres pics of my toms. I'm guessing I may as well just keep them on the plant just now? Also what has happened to the tom in the final pic? Just a wee creature having a munch?
