I have several bags of potatoes planted for Christmas, They went in on the 1st August and have made a lot of top growth. The trouble is the high winds the other day have blathered them, they look a right mess. A lot of partly broken stems etc. My question is what can I do about it, if I cut off the foilage will it check the growth of the potatoes? will it reshoot? will they be ok just left as they are? I intend to bring them into the GH when the other stuff in there has finished. They are in old compost bags and i dont see how i could stake them.

Try & get them indoors if you can Bill, failing that can you cover them with anything like a makeshift cloche. I have also known broken branches to heal if splinted. May be worth a try.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Another option is to fleece the foliage & stand something round the bags to act as a windbreak.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”
