A silly question but can I compost tea bags? do the bags rot down or are they plastic based. Does anyone compost anything unusual? Despite turning and aereorating my compost doesnt seem to get very warm (In Daleks) but it has more worms than you can shake a stick at!

it doesn't have to: there are 100s of different composting organisms. When it does get hot, it isn't for very long, then it has a cool period

If you put your compost together in one session; and layer the greens and browns and wet it down - it gets very hot for about a week; and then it cools. The smaller the bits, the hotter it gets.

Thanks Two Sheds, that article from Cornell was very interesting, who would have thought there was so much and such a range of activity going on in my bin.
My compost has been getting warm then I use an aereator expecting it to get even hotter, but it seems that thee intrudction of air actualy cools it down, maybe I have been a bit too entheusiastic with my new tool. Its all about balance.
