What does stringless mean with ref to runners.

I often wonder whether runner beans are different at all. Every variety I've ever tried tasted the same as the previous one. I wonder whether there is an element of cross pollination between plotholders giving you a generic variety.

I've never had a stringless bean, and I've always taken the edges off them ever since I was a little boy. Habit I guess.

I suspect 'stringless' is a bit like 'stainless' - I was horrified years ago when I worked for a stainless steel mfr and found out that 'stainless' actually only means 'stains less than other things', it doesn't mean it won't stain at all... So maybe 'stringless' means 'less stringy' rather than 'no strings'. Does feel like a con though. I grew cosse violette this year too and loved them, so definitely one for the future .

I wonder if a stringless vest would be invisible..............

Mine this year were definitely 'stringless', I think you just have to pick them when they are very small, about 6 ins! Not what they say on the packet, they also get really tough and inedible actual pods, if they are left any longer, horrible!

Now you're going to ask what variety ? I can go and look if you want, but a 'stringless variety!'
