Sweetcorn - is it worth still waiting?

My sweetcorn is still not showing any signs of tassles, never mind tassles that are brown! They are still green and growing away, but out of all that I have planted I've only managed to harvest two They both had tassles that had turned brown. Is it worth carrying on with the wait, or should I just compost them and give up?!

Ancee! I hate to say this! But if it was me! I'd give them up for dead!

Are you sure the tassels haven't just been eaten by some critter? Have you any swellings where the cobs should be?

I have big, fat cobs, tightly shut, if I prise them gently open the tassles are there but pale green and silky.

What is the juice inside the kernels like? If you pierce one with your nail it should be milky when ready. What's the worst that can happen if you leave them, they get frosted, or at our site get eaten by a rat!! I've been caught out before as I missed the brown tassel stage and they tassels has either been nibbled away or blown away.

The tassels only go brown on the outside Ancee. Inside stays green and silky. Bet something's eaten the external bit. Do the kernel test.

I pulled them all up last night. Some were teeny tiny, so went in the compost, but others were ripe and ready and milky! They were all still tightly packed, tassles all still tucked inside. I don't think they were ever going to let their tassles out, never mind turn them brown. I griddled them all last night, bit of salt and butter, they were wonderful Just don't know why they didn't do what they were meant to do though. hey ho

Thats amazing, dont they need to put the tassles out to fertilise? I think thats where the reference to sexual intercourse of the term "Putting out" came from.

Not gullible in the least, I have such an honest innocent face that everyone believes everything i say.

If you want gullible then my Mother in law wins top prize, she once had a new front door fitted to her council house No7. I casually said "Its lucky they had a No7 door in stock" She thought about it and then said "Well they told me they were doing it a month ago so i suppose they allowed time to make one".

My Mother believes everything I say too. On my last car, you could operate the radio and CD on the steering wheel so I told Mum that it was actually voice operated and she could tell it what to do. So she said Radio and on it came. "Change programmes" etc. Then CD, and that came on instead. It played a track so I told her to tell it to move to the next track etc.
But the very best bit was telling her that she could control the volume by whispering or raising her voice and saying "Quieter" or "Louder" So she's sitting there whispering away and I'm trying desperately not to laugh. Eventually she twigged that I was having her on........just another of those little things she's never forgiven me for

I was once cleaning my contact lenses when my little brother came in.
"What are you doing" he asked.
"Well, I'm cleaning the blue bit of my eye" I said, "Don't you clean yours? ugh!"
An hour later I got a call off my Mum going mad, as the poor little love had been in the bathroom trying to poke his eyes out!! hahaha!
I'm not evil by the way, I just had 3 smaller really annoying brothers, believe me, they were far worse than I was!

There's a commercial field full of sweet corn 100m from my house that still hasn't been harvested so they must think they will mature further
