Potato and Bean pest/disease?

My potatoes have developed brown spots on some of the leaves and they appear to be curling a bit too now, any idea what it could be? Here is a couple of photos.



Also I've noticed some brown patches on the bean plants this morning, any idea what this could be?

Nothing that I'd be worrying about, unless you know of a disease particular to your part of the world.

Steve, some of my young potato leaves got markings similar to your first photo, and then the leaves started to turn yellow. I thought it was maybe magnesium deficiency, so watered in some epsom salts, which seemed to do the trick. If your leaves start to go yellow, I'd give it a go.

They are turning a little yellow. What proportion of Epsom salts to water did you use?

Try sulphur of phosphate available at bunnings etc

Your 2 biggest problems there are feeding, feeding and oh more feeding and the one you know well ... Water retention. Potatoes are thirsty
Keep an eye out for caterpillars etc too

Please keep us posted and don't give up on the forum, there are loads of good people on here, not all log in every day

The growing conditions there are so far removed from what people here understand, so the advice will tend to be generic rather than localised for yourself I'm afraid. I spent 2 years in Mandurah so I do understand some but was still experimenting and adapting so not an expert I'm afraid

Also, if you like chillies, they're perennials rather than having to plant fresh every year likes we've got to. The S of P mentioned above helps greatly with the chillies and their fruiting and flowering

They are turning a little yellow. What proportion of Epsom salts to water did you use?

Steve, I use a couple of handfuls diluted in a watering can.
If leaves start to turn yellow on anything I tend to reach for the salts first - probably not necessary in many cases, but most plants do seem to perk up. I remember reading somewhere that if there's too much potassium in the soil, then this can lead to magnesium deficiency - so overfeeding with a high potassium fertiliser can cause problems (maybe I've been overdoing it with the comfrey tea at times)

I asked at the local Bunnings (DIY/Garden Centre superstore) and the guy thought it was "blackspot" which from what I can tell is early blight? He recommended a fungicide which I have just sprayed on, I'll see how the next couple of days go, but I think their days are numbered!
