Our soils are declining fast, mainly because of erosion due to winds & rain (on unprotected soil), and the soil is a huge carbon & water store.

Strange but I had always had the impression that he did very little of it himself. Whenever there is "digging" I only ever saw him doing what looked a bit too much as if he had stood in to do the last forkfull to be turned. He never seems natural doing the show.

^ you don't want to watch a guy digging soil for half an hour though, you want to watch the planting.

No-dig doesn't mean that you sell your spade anyway, it just means that you don't dig the whole plot as a matter of routine: you still dig a hole to do planting, or to harvest your spuds

I like Monty Don, he's the closest you'll get to the great man Geoff Hamilton with his down to earth approach!
I also like Bob Flowerdew but they seem to think he has a face for radio these days!

Ps I think Monty was away from the telly for a while because of a heart attack. I don't think i'd be too keen to get stuck into the digging after that mesell!
