I have been given 100g of mushrooms spawn which I would like to have a go at. I have a potting shed which I thought would be ideal, but I am worried that it will not be warm enough. In the potting shed is an ottoman, and I thought if I could put a box inside of it, it would be a bit more insulated and nice and dark? If I just put the box in the shed, I will have to put blankets up at the windows (windows on 3 sides) as it will not be dark enough. Also I don't have time to make my own compost. Would a bag of sterile general purpose compost from the garden centre work? There is also an old chest of drawers in the potting shed and I have heard that they might be ideal also? Any help suggesting would be appreciated.

Mushrooms grow very well outside at this time of year, so I don't think they need to be particularly warm.
They aren't easy to cultivate though: I can't do it. There are loads of old threads if you want to browse thru. Put the kettle on:
