Have you thought about what variety you might like and what rootstock it's going to be on? Where is the tree to be planted and what is your soil like?
I know nothing about growing cherries, but a few specific questions might help others with some advice. The only thing I would add is that from reading around on here, "bargain" trees seem to be more trouble than they are worth.
I've got one. It gets a bit bigger each year, looks pretty when it flowers, then the birds eat the cherries. This year I picked half a dozen that had just started to ripen, and brought them inside. That'll learn the tweeters...
