Normally when planting veg at this time of year (actually, at just about any time of year) I put out Slug Off granules, or something similar, round my seedlings. This protects them against the snails that live in thousands at my plot.
Sadly, at present I cannot get any locally, and can't afford to buy online what with the crippling postage to the "Scottish Highlands".
But I noticed a reference by someone online to putting out horticultural sand round their seedlings - a commercial grower, so hopefully someone who knows what works !
My question is - given that I've tried eggshells and found them not to work, is there any form of sand that any of you guys have tried that works well against snails and slugs ?
I've got drawerfuls of coarse builder's sand just waiting here to get thrown on the garden...
