I just got an allotment a couple of months ago, so am looking forward to my first growing season, in 2014.

A nearby allotment association sells Kings seeds at 50% discount. To be honest, I had never heard of Kings before. They may have a similar deal with an association near you. Maybe ask a few of the local plot holders

I know that you find them very good AP but my experience was that it was a total waste of money so I'd suggest going along to your local meeting to find out if it's for you rather than simply joining up front. I found it very much biased to the showing end of things and not really relevant to the type of growing to eat that I do but as I say, I expect groups do vary depending on the members.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Well, I guess I am a medium experienced grower now. Although still consider a newbie.

I keep as much of my own as time and scenario permits.
I tend to grow from seed because as you gain experience, you find you prefer different types.
(rather than 'cucumber' ... I like the mini ones. Rather than 'tomatoes' I prefer some standard tomatoes for cooking plus some yummy darker, smaller ones in salads etc . (as an example of personal preference).)
Also any mistakes you make are less expensive.
Also, if things go wrong you have more seeds to have another go.
              Another suggestion is 'realseeds.com' .
There are much more choices with seeds as you move forward.

BUT plug plants are a nice easy way in to it.
It also depends what you have to be able to start seeds off early.
(I am lucky... I have a cold conservatory I use as a greenhouse)
So I can sow seeds under glass and get them growing earlier than if you only have outside.
So I can get them to plug plant stage myself.
If you dont have that luxury, perhaps plug plants get you going.

And remember, have fun with it.
Grow the things that you like to eat.
