This sort of thing really, really annoys me. Meteorology is a hobby of mine and the almost weekly weather scare stories are beyond a joke. People believe this stuff and worry and panic unnecessarily. Long term weather models are experimental and have to be taken with a huge portion of salt.

For sane, sensible, informed and interesting weather news from professional forecasters who really know their stuff, 2 sites worth keeping an eye on are Weatherweb TV (daily video forecasts by Simon Keeling) and Emergency breakdown | AA (regular weather blog posts by Matt Hugo).

Please don't take them with too much salt tho............as we will likely need it for gritting

Now I've never heard of Exacta weather so I had a little goggle and found this:-

BBC - Blogs - Weather - What's behind the 'coldest winter for 100 years' headline?

Guess what, it was written exactly a year ago (2012) and the author says that Exacta issued a similar forecast a year before that in 2011

Maybe Exacta only have one forecast for this time of year...........

I would place quite a large bet on there being snow somewhere in the UK in the next fortnight.

Bet the bookies wouldn't give me odds as its almost a certainty.

I have witnessed snow in Chapel-en le-Frith in late Oct.

Came out of my chalet just outside Fort William on Thursday 11/09/1999 to find snow on the hills above.

Seen snow in May in Buxton, Derbyshire.

Nowt unusual been happening for years.

It is not called the weather for nothing, it's weather it will or weather it wont. They havent got a clue past next week.
My long range forecast for 2014 is as follows: Winter is likely to be cold, spring will be a bit warmer but still nippy, summer will be hotter and autumn will see wholsale destruction of leaves. Thats as close as you're going to get.

I too remember 62/62,in Worcestershire it froze the diesel in our tractors and froze all our underground water pipes (3ft deep) even until after the weather had warmed up. We had to get a guy using a welder to pass a current through the pipes to unthaw them, he became a very rich man due to the demand. The snow was so deep and long lasting we had to enter fields to bypass the drifts. There were plagues of frogs and dogs sleeping with cats (ok I added the last bit|).

A man in the village abandoned his Jaguar and payed me a lot of money to retrieve it for him, it took us most of the day to get our tractor to it in a blizzard and when we finaly found it he had forgotten the bloody keys!
We also had our electricty fail for 3 days and we had 5000 hatching eggs in electric incubators and a similar number of day old chicks under electric brooders. The MEB brought out a huge generator and wired us up! The rest of our village were very jealous. A team of guys took a masasive transformer across three fields of snow drifts on a huge sledge to replace the one that had blown, got the old one down from between two very high poles and hoisted the new one up and all in blizzaerd conditions.

                          Eeeee them were the days.

                            It'll never happen.

Mind you, I say that all the time, but to be honest, I'm usually right!

Look on the bright side. It'll be a great opportunity to try some Nordic gardening methods. There must be some!

Anyway, a few feet of snow will make my allotment look tidy.

Sadly as self employed, no drive = no work = no money....... Now where's the nearest stockist who fits cars with tractor wheels and snow chains
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....
