  • silverskins next year

I am thinking of growing some silverskin onions next year for pickling.

Question is, can I grow them in the same way I grew spring onions this year?

I.E - I had a big module tray, each module being approx 3" squared, and I simply sprinkled some spring onion seed into each module around beginning of March. I then left them in the greenhouse.

Beginning of May I then just planted each module 'as is' into the ground. And they grew perfectly. Sort of pushing each other out of the way as they grew.

Will silverskins do the same? Or should I maybe sow just 1 or 2 per module?

    THanks

I think that would work, but I would favour thinning them out myself, you can also plant the thinnings.

I've grown them and just sown 'thinly' in drills, they push each other out of the way. I then spend an evening crying as I try to pickle the little blighters :'(
