Keep them in the bottom draw of your fridge. You may find that if you order them now they wont be shipped to you until nearer the time.

I've just ordered Pentland Javelin, Nicola, King Edward, and Picasso. They're sending them at the end of January.

I will be growing mine on raised beds, you don't need to do the whole trenching thing. This year I just made a hole in the ground and popped in the spud and covered it, thats it. No earthing up required and had great results. Next year I will cover with straw instead because I've not done it before and I like the way the, how shall I say this, the more traditional plot holders shake their heads.

          Hi John

How's things? Good day? I appreciate the advice.

I've created a page on Facebook marks allotment and posted pictures on there

Kestrel, late second early,Tastes nice, huge crops, good all rounder, slug resistant, does well in my soil.

Maxine, late main crop, tastes nice, hummungus crops, red skin, white flesh, good all rounder, does well in my soil (better than Desiree) not totally slug resistant though and suffers from scab slightly.Still worth it.

A N Other, early of some description probably Charlotte-ish with waxy yellow flesh?

Like the sound of "kestrel", snadger.
              Has anyone grown lady "christl"?

                Lady Christl - is a good'un here
Kestrel also does well here, but I prefer waxy potatoes.

Grew Winston (1st) Kestrel (2nd) and Cara (main) this year. Good yield from all three. Winston & Kestrel were excellent cookers, particularly Kestrel. However, Cara is a disappointment. Makes terrific roasties and bakes well, but utterly useless for boiling/mash. I've never seen any potato disintegrate so much. No need to mash - they're already mush. This despite catalogues, etc. saying 'good for boiling'. In 2014 I'll be growing Kestrel and Romano and try out a couple of other First Earlies - not sure which yet. Need blight and slug resistance - did very well on that score this year.

We used Winston for just about everything - not claimed in catalogues. Next door neighbour waxed lyrical about the chips she made from them - but I read more than once, that Winston is not good for chips, I left them In the ground slightly longer than I think I should have but quality was good and many of the potatoes were huge, even so, they still 'scraped' easily though it was quicker to peel them.
Am tempted to sow trial rows of Picasso, Nadine and Premiere. Tried Orla last year. Results were poor, though, of course, it wasn't a good year for growing veg.

Definites for me next year will be Ambo (2nd early) and Remarka (maincrop) - both were fabulous this year. One of the Remarka weighed in at just under 3lbs - very tasty too.

Hoping to try Lady Christl as it seems to get unanimous praise (though have to send away for them, never seen them in garden centres here)
