  • Advice for plot layout

Hi all busy on plot this morning, taken a few pics and would appreciate your thought on what to do with my odd shape plot.

As you can see on the left it goes to a point and I'm stuck what to do.

Thinking six raised beds on right maybe raspberries top corner just stick what to do with left triangle bed.

    Any thoughts

    Thanks

    Mark

I think before you start planting Mark, you need to find the NSEW aspect of your plot so you are not planting anything tall on the south side thereby shading other crops.

      Hi Mally

Apparently the sun shines on the plot on the plot all day looking at compass it's south facing . So if your looking at photos the one with the left aspect which goes to a point is the direction the sun comes from

But I've my raspberry caine's to replant so need to decide where before they die

In that case I would be tempted to put your Rasps at the most northerly end, as you know they can grow pretty tall.

Just for an idea .. couldn't you put your raspberries in pots, until you have thought out your new plan in detail. You could then plant them in the 'exact right' place, rather than maybe getting it wrong.

I have ordered some rasps, which will be potted when they arrive. Not really through choice, but simply because the plot isn't ready yet on my new allotment. The previous plot holder has still to remove his greenhouse, but a hospital visit has put the moving of it on hold.

I've about 70 canines too many to pot but I know your right I need to find a way of doing something with the fence should like to cover it someway to create privacy.

Have you much to do on your new plot?

The majority of it is all dug now... just waiting for the frosts.

By the way, your photographs are pretty small, which makes it difficult for readers here to see clearly. Of course your camera or phone has maybe been set to take small size pictures, but if you have reduced them yourself, maybe you could upload larger ones.

Not sure if these make any difference to be honest:

but, 70 raspberry plants? Do you really need that many? They should be planted about 3ft apart, I don't think you have room

I have about twenty, could do with a few more if I had the room but is enough for 4 of us.

You really don't need to plant seventy raspberry canes. I would suggest ten, spaced as Twosheds suggested.

Plant 10/12 as has been suggested & make some friends on the site by asking if they want any. You will be surprised by the returned thanks next year.

Or plant 20 and make raspberry vodka!

We have 30, we only grow autumn raspberries but they are more than sufficient for the 4 of us. We make jam, ice cream, puds and drinks from them.

Thanks John my next problem is where to plant them I'm having problems with the odd shape. I need to decide today to order my raised beds do I grow them up the fence as I would like to create a screen?

I'd like to make the plot interesting I've ordered my shed today
