that's interesting, considering they aren't counted as one of the 5-a-day (they're a starch, not a veg in that equation)

#45 &#46 made dash of to Google yes the potato is a starch, which I think we all knew but I was very surprised just how much goodness there was in there to.

Well once you get past the 79% water content.

Potatoes have become increasing more expensive your average 2.5kg bag in the supermarket will set you back around £2 when it equates to a good haulms worth. I fully intend growing more next year as it is always a staple part of a lot of home cooked meals.

I don't grow specifically to save money, as I'm not sure I would when considering the cost of seed, compost, pots, time taken to grow (I'm self employed, there is no free time), etc etc. I do appreciate though that what I grow has immense value, it taste far superior has lost less of its nutrients and is better for the environment than all the food miles used to get supermarket produce to my door.

I'm naturally tight some might say frugal, but I see frugal as a spendthrift I'm far tighter than that.

No but there's some cardi in there which is quite similar so I'm told.

I can't remember the comedian who said it, but he told the tale of how the scots came to have the thistle as their emblem. The English were first in the queue and naturally picked the beautiful rose, the welsh came next and picked the delightful daffodil the irish the shamrock and the scots turned up late to be told that there was nothing left. The scot asked what about that pointing to the thistle to be told, that weed was being thrown out. The scot replied what you mean its free?

              Me & my plot

I have an allotment because I enjoy being there and having a chat ..... If it was a money thing I would just spend longer at work and earn more ... Im self employed
It most probably costs me money but the enjoyment it gives and self satisfaction is not measurable
