Online free allotment planner

Hello everyone,

I'm posting to announce an allotment planner which I've launched online:

I've had an allotment for seven years, and programmed this primarily for my own plans and record keeping before expanding it for online use.

It has about 1,500 fruit and vegetable varieties that are commercially available, as well as the ability to record your own produce and notes.

Vegplan has two main elements - the plot (largely permanent) and the plan (for each year). The system allows for crop rotation, as well as permanent beds.

There are publishing options that allow you to embed your live plan in an external website (like your own blog).

If this looks like it could be of interest please feel free to open an account and set up your plan. I'm also open to suggestions as to the kind of features you'd find useful.

It looks interesting, but as far as I can tell the setup doesn't allow for wonky-shaped plots - or if it does, I can't find it. My beds vary a lot in size, from 1.2m to 8.6m long and 70cm-120cm wide. Am I missing something?

Hi Sparrow,

Thanks for checking it out. The plot map is based on a grid of beds, and you can connect individual beds by choosing the 'Plot' tab, then 'Span'. This allows for different shaped beds (longer, wider, L-shaped, + shaped etc).

You could also set empty areas by removing the border from a bed. That's an idea though - I could offer the option to 'deactivate' or 'hide' beds so they appear completely blank (at the moment even without a border, you'd still see the number).

@TJA_Allotmenteer - this has got some really nice features, particularly the range of cops/varieties, and does make it very easy get started with plot planning.

@sparrow100 for irregular-shaped beds my own completely free veg garden/plot planning site - see Allotmentor - Planner - makes these very easy to deal with as does the very good (but £15/yr) http://www.growveg.com.

I've gone back to Excel and working things out with a pencil and paper. At least this way I will learn spacings/succession planting etc....
