Whereabouts on a carrot are it's seeds? I want to save some once I've grown some next year, but am a bit perplexed! Are they in the carrot - so should it be left in the ground until seeds form? Or do they sprout from the green fronds from the top? This is a serious question btw - I am just a slightly bit baffled!

A mature carrot will send up a flower spike in amongst the leaves, in the second year. The flower looks a bit like cow parsley or queen anne's lace (same family I think). Then if you get good pollination it will set seeds where the flowers are.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to? -
The carrot produces flowers from the ferny top which will turn to seeds . Takes 2 years I think to flower.

Like nearly every other plant, it produces a flower. Then the flower is pollinated, and seeds form.

IIRC they are in the flowers that form on the greenery,also remember that carrots are biennial so they will be taking up growing space for a long time before producing seedHe who smiles in the face of adversity,has already decided who to blame

So... given you can chop the top off a carrot and grow fluffy leaves from it in a saucer of water, could you eat the carrot AND get the seeds from the same plant?? Or would the carrot be too old and wrinkly by then? (Not that there's anything wrong with wrinklies, not at all )
