I planted a pack of chilli seeds last week no signs of germinating yet but a few of the strawberry seeds I planted at the same time are just showing.

shamie - Paper lanterns are very hot indeed. And the fruit are a wonderful shape.

I had LOADS of pods last year from my 2 x paper lantern plants, here is a pic:

I use a Garland G52 propagator. It's more of a heated tray really as the temperature is fixed at 19 celcius, but as this is the optimum temperature for germination of the widest range of seeds, not just chilli, it makes sense. The G52 holds two A4 seed trays (with fitted, vented propagator lids). It is perfectly adequate for germinating most strains of chilli seed; even the ultra hot ones such as naga, for which you'd be advised to set your propagator to a temperature in the low 20's, will still be mostly successful, they'll just take longer to come through. I think the biggest consideration is less about temperature, and more about moisture control.

Anyway, I'm very happy with it. It doesn't take up much space, maintenance is a wipe with a damp cloth now and again, a fixed thermostat means it could not be simpler to use, and its a much better price and usually just as effective as many of it's all bells and whistles rivals.

Question - how often should I water the seed tray of compost thats in my heated prop, or does the condensation produced do that for me?

Until germination, I never need to water them. The lid retains the moisture.

Hi guys. I bought a propagator from a bargain store for 2.50 which I think is awesome. I've taken these pictures today and would appreciate any tips on potting on etc. I was going to wait for the first 2 leaves to grow a proper set but not sure if to then put them under a spot light until it's a bit sunnier or if to put the pots on my window sill? If I'm not being clear please let me know. Ow still waiting for the scotch b's, guess they will be a couple week, the cayennes and jalepenos came up in 4 days. Cheers guys

What because they are leggy or because the scotch bonnets havnt arrived? My radiator is a bit erratic at times I must say, I was going to get a heated prop, grow light etc but have a baby coming soon so I shall wait next year for the big toys, I do enjoy the manual way though
