  • well, my plants are in my conservatory that is quite warm, but gets hardly any sunlight whatsoever.

Easter time all chillies and toms will be going into the gh.

THe paraffin heater will be on during the night if needed.

    • Mine are only 3 inches tall and kept inside in propogator. From past experience they really like the warm and do nothing if cold

      • I've split my chillies half on the windowsill half under cfl lights 35w which give off a bit of heat, the ones under the lights are doing a lot better even though there a good 6-8" away from the lights nice and green and slightly better growth, the tomatoes and cucumbers seem happier on the windowsill though the ones under the lights seem to go a lot leggier
No expert but maybe heats as important as light when it comes to chillies

        • all in the gh

Well that's it, everything is now in the GH

With the paraffin heater on when necessary at night time.

THe house was looking like a jungle, so they all had to go out!

            I'd be happy if my Chillies were 3" tall . . .

I don't have any lights though, they have been in the Greenhouse and it's probably a little cold for them at night.

                • Looking good, chilli_grower

Do your follow any set recipe for your chilli growing medium?

All mine are through now, with the exception of Chocolate Habanero; not so much as a disturbed vermiculite granule. Hmmm.. bit annoying. I wanted to grow this last year but couldn't source any seeds.
Still, mustn't grumble. My house is similarly overrun with overwintered plants desperate to go outside. But I'm hanging on to the end of the month as its set to turn cold again this coming week. I'll just have to give them a light haircut and rotate the pots every other day to keep the plants healthy and uniform.

                  • Hi Philthy,

                    No set mix.

Just cheap compost, with a generous helping of vermiculite or perlite.

                    THats it!

Much too cold for chillies in the GH at the moment, best kept on a kitchen window sill if you have the room and even then you need to be aware of nighttime draughts.

Kitchen is Nort facking and not very light the best window cill would be East facing but I would be worried that they would get leggy, hence the Greenhouse. They have been in the electric propagator in the Greenhouse, recently with it off during the day . . . I have 6 plants, the best 2 are about an inch high with their 2nd set of true leaves appearing.
