Seeing as this thread has a 'sticky' I thought the following 'blogs' I did on the subject might be helpful to some of you;
Sowing Dust sized seeds;
Sowing Small seeds;
Sowing many varieties of one seed genusTreat the earth well,
it was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.

I've got a lot of small seedlings lining the kitchen window sill from an initial bout of enthusiasm (toms/peppers/chilli/aubs/erbs). Outside, I (over the last couple of weeks) have sown broad beans, peas, onion sets (a few in modules) in the unheated gh.
Am hopeful for more time to work through my few packs of seeds that I've got kicking about.
Aren't Strawberry seedlings teeny. 6 of my 10 Sarian are up - you need a magnifying glass to see them, but they are there - I assure you.While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

The scores so far ..
4/6 of the dahlias I'm growing for yams have hatched and will need pricking out soon.
6/6 of the golden huckleberries have started. Too early for transfer though
0/6 of black huckleberries
0/6 Queensland Arrowroot
0/6 Inca Berries
3/10 black strawbs
0/10 blue strawbs
0/10 yellow strawbs
3/10 giant red strawbs
0/72 wild white alpine strawbs

Sowed today:-
Strawberry - Florian in modules
Sweet pea - Romeo in Ziplock bags. This method of starting large seeds is working well as I can pick out the germinating seeds and pot them up leaving the rest to germinate later. I'm using the same compost over and over again so its economical too.

6 cells of golden pearls
3 pots of ornamental grasses
10 cells of black strawberries
10 cells of yellow strawberries
10 cells of blue strawberries
10 cells of giant red strawberries
72 cells of wild white strawberries
Yes that does say seventy two wild white's - I need a total of 80 viable strawberry plants, with at least 60% of them shade tolerant
That's pretty much all my early sowing done, so unless I have a change of heart about anything, no more sowing for about 6 to 8 weeks now

I have more "exotic" stuff already out in the garden (tubers, trees and bushes), plus more on the way and more seeds waiting for their turn later in the year too. I got a bit bored looking at carrot tops, tomato plants and curly kale last year while sat out having a beer, plus I figured everything I was growing was cheap to buy. This year I'm moving more into fruit, perennials, and foods I've never tasted before. I can buy carrots cheap enough in a shop, and I know what they taste like. Medlar, Jostaberry, Daylillies, Asparagus Peas, and Hyacinth Beans are a different story
There's more info about what I'm growing this year (and why) on my blog (link in my sig line)
